This quilt block shows a square building with a big round sign on top. The roof has a curvy bottom, and is a light brown. The big oval white sign on top has the word "Debbie's" in cursive and red. There's a red tail coming from the S and on it it says underneath, "Drive In" Below that is a light blue trapezoid that says, "Classic American Food." The building itself is a deep maroon. In lights, or dots, is the word, "Donuts." Below that is a yellow window, with a red "Open" sign vertical. Then there is a brighter red door to the left.

Today I continue my quest in creating and posting one block a day of the fabulous That Town And Country Quilt by the lovely Susan-Claire Mayfield. This is day two hundred and eighty-one of that project.

Debbie’s Drive-In, Classic American Food.

This is fast food in Granby.

The food is so good, especially the donuts! They added donuts a few months ago, and they really got it right!

The outside is crispy, and the inside is light and soft. Wonderful toppings, but I like them plain. Just sweet enough.

You probably have guessed that I’m a donut superfan. The chicken tenders are also my favorites. The building that this restaurant is in originated as an A&W drive-in.

This is the first time that it has been a drive-in for decades. In between, it was a very popular eat-in Chinese restaurant.

My first job was at that A&W when I was 14 years old. It was 1970, and I made $1.00 an hour to wash and fill root beer mugs. It was owned by Sodie and Marg Blevins.

Back then, there was a field out back, and Sodie used to feed the gophers french fries.

Funny what you remember.
