Today I continue my quest in creating and posting one block a day of the fabulous That Town And Country Quilt by the lovely Susan Claire. This is day ninety-five of that project.

This quilt block shows another patch of grass at the bottom using a jagge piece of fabric with different shades of green on it. Against the gray background is a swingset with a singular swing hanging from it. The swingset itself is a striking red against the gray, while the chains are an interesting speckled thread. The first thing we see after the picnic area is a bank of swing sets.

The kids yell, “Push me!” and run off to claim a swing.

I have to tell you this whole swing thing made me nervous as a parent, but it nearly makes me apoplectic as a grandparent. Little ones running in and out of moving swings make me anxious.

Especially the littlest ones that are totally oblivious to the fact a big brother or sister is about to nail them in the head with a foot from the front or the back. Not to mention the daredevils that swing way up high and start making the swing chains bounce and twist.

Then there are those who have astronaut delusions that swing as high as they can and LAUNCH themselves to land somewhere out in the grass, hopefully right side up.

Oh geez, I think I may have to lie down imagining all this “fun.”
