Today I continue my quest in creating and posting one block a day of the fabulous That Town And Country Quilt by the lovely Susan Claire. This is day twenty-two of that project.

This quilt block shows an English style postbox, or mailbox, in the bottom right on a mound of grass. It is red and white.

Today’s block is so reminiscent of mailboxes I’ve seen in English movies. I like the red color and the profile. It makes it look important.

This pattern was created about six years ago, and I was thinking about how the volume of written communication through the mail has gone down. I’m sure this is true for New Zealand. I wonder if that means fewer postboxes?

I like to imagine all the love letters that have passed through these quaint postboxes.

On another note, sewing some of these bitty pieces is a bit tricky. I have a friend who would say it’s “fiddley.” This piece was one of them.
