Today I continue my quest in creating and posting one block a day of the fabulous That Town And Country Quilt by the lovely Susan Claire. This is day twenty-nine of that project.

This quilt block shows a yellow house with a deep red roof and chimney. On the front a sign reads, "Smith's General Store Est. 1956." There is a red door on the right, and a large multi-paneled window on the left.

This is undoubtedly a charming general store. Having a little bit of everything you might need if you were a local resident and everything you might want as a visitor.

I’m thinking Ms. Smith carries local crafts and produce, as well as basic necessities. When I saw this block I was thinking about a store in Rand, Colorado that is simply called The Rand Store. It has the most unusual gifts and books you can imagine. I love to shop there. This is extraordinary because Rand’s official population is 4. Located on Hwy 125 headed north.

The name of this store is Smith’s. Did you know that Smith is the most common surname in New Zealand? It’s also the most common surname in Australia, Great Britain, Canada, Europe, and of course, the United States.

Actually, Smith is the name I was born with and the Established year on the General Store is the year I was born!
