Today I continue my quest in creating and posting one block a day of the fabulous That Town And Country Quilt by the lovely Susan Claire. This is day one hundred and seven of that project.

This quilt block shows three pointy green trees on a patch of grass against a gray background. The important part here though is that in the patch of grass is a blue pond area with three duck shaped (and colored) buttons with two holes each. They are so cute, and bright, with little red beaks all in a row. — Click To Enlarge

Nestled in this grove of trees is a duck pond.

It goes back where you can’t see, where people can sit and throw bread to the ducks.

Children can watch the baby ducks following their mother across the pond and squeak with delight. My youngest grandchild’s favorite animal is a duck. It was his first word. His just older brother likes ducks a lot too.

We actually raise laying ducks and geese. Duck eggs make lovely baked goods and excellent homemade noodles. It’s rare that someone is allergic to duck eggs, but it happens occasionally.

Ducks eggs taste very close to chicken eggs but are larger, richer, and have more nutrition per gram. Occasionally we will get a goose egg or two, but they are primarily in the duck flock to provide protection from predators.

I can tell you from experience that they have a lot to say to each other. Their house is outside my bedroom window, and I swear they convene a meeting at about midnight every day.
