We have geese that live with our chickens and help guard them from predators. They do a pretty good job of alerting and herding the hens out of danger.

These “hoop houses,” large Quonset-shaped greenhouses, are where the laying hens spend the winters. They are free-range in these large structures with fresh bedding and fresh hay all winter long.

Exclusive at the Fabric Nook, color your own ornaments. Looking for a non-food Easter basket treat? This is it! At $5.00 each these are a great buy. Use colored pencils, fine Sharpie's or paint. These are from a local company, Aspenglow. Nona has put together a little paint kit with really nice brushes. The way they are made makes them easy even for little hands.

Yesterday in my shop we put Christmas fabrics into the "vault" until "Christmas in July". With limited floor space, we just can't have every bolt out at the same time. We still have a cutie-patootie kit of snowmen out for a few more days but in Christmas's place are NEW arrivals. We tried something else new too. Read more at the link in bio!

Today brings an end to a year of blocks.
.
It's sure been fun and enlightening for me. This last square has a gatehouse with a big keyhole in the door.
.
You can enter here and travel all around my Town and Country. This door has unlocked so much more for me. It has allowed me to recall memories I thought I had forgotten and share them.
.
This project has encouraged the artist and storyteller in me. In other words, this door unlocks me. My heart, my past, and my imagination.
.
I've enjoyed sharing my stories with you. I've enjoyed making each of these little pieces of art.
.
Thank you so much for taking this journey with me.
.
On to a new year and new endeavors. I will be posting and sharing as we look forward to a healthy, happy new year.

Lars and Ebba planted this tree soon after they arrived.⁠
.⁠
Now it's a mighty oak and can hold anyone who wants to swing on this tire. Grandchildren climb up and pile on and spin around. A single rider can go a long way up.⁠
.⁠
What you can't see in this picture is that this tree is on the bank of a swimming hole. If you stand on top of the tire you can swing out and jump in. I wish I could hear the laughter that has been generated by this old-fashioned style of fun.⁠
.⁠
There is an innertube or two that stays down there for floating in the pond and daydreaming. What a great spot on a hot day to cool off especially if you've been in the hayfield and are hot, sweaty, and itchy from the hay.⁠
.⁠
Add a cooler of beer or soda pop and you've got a heavenly spot in the country.⁠
.⁠

I love this grain storage building.⁠
.⁠
It's made of concrete and then painted in very creative colors. It looks a little space age to me.⁠
.⁠
I would be so excited if I were driving along the highway sometime and looked over and saw this in a field. I'm putting it in Olsson's field.⁠
.⁠
With a family as large as theirs I'm sure someone creative made this. I imagine it on the edge of a field of sunflowers bordering corn.⁠

Wouldn't that be pretty?⁠

Ollie loves this tractor.⁠
.⁠
Now in his late sixties, he has dreamed of a tractor like this his whole life. He looks forward to every day he spends in it.⁠
.⁠
He was a little boy when he watched his dad plow the last field with a plow and mule. That's when they bought the first tractor.⁠
.⁠
Just a bare-bones tractor, no cab, no windshield, no power steering, and brakes you had to stand on to make it stop. It was the most beautiful thing they'd ever seen. First time he ever saw his dad, Lars, cry.⁠
.⁠
The work that first tractor could do!⁠
.⁠
Lars could plow fields in half the time. He increased his holdings 10 times over after that first tractor came.⁠
.⁠
There were, of course, other tractors. All stripped-down models that did the job and nothing fancy. Ollie would look at tractor calendars like other guys looked at swimsuit editions.⁠
.⁠
Finally, he could do it! He could buy that fancy tractor.⁠
.⁠
It has air conditioning and heat! Cup holders and shock absorbers on the ADJUSTABLE seat. Defrost and wipers for the windows and Stereo!⁠
.⁠
Ollie is trying to figure out how he can never have to leave his tractor. His wife of 40 years is jealous and suspects he's murmuring the tractor's name in his sleep.⁠
.⁠
Ollie has decided that if he were to die in that tractor seat he would die a happy man.⁠
.⁠

This funny house is on a parcel that the Olssons purchased adjacent to their farm.⁠
.⁠
After a bit of TLC, it was made livable. Stephen, the family blacksmith, and his partner Daniel live there now. They are clever and handy and it is now a quirky, charming home.⁠
.⁠
The blacksmith shop is on the original Olsson parcel. There Stephen handles all the ironwork and welding for the farm.⁠
.⁠
Additionally, he has a thriving business doing custom ironwork. He is booked out a year in advance.⁠
.⁠
Daniel, a software consultant, travels 3 days a week solving problems for small businesses.⁠
.⁠
Stephen and Daniel are terrific uncles to their extended family. Stephen has a booming laugh that is infectious and he laughs a lot. A big man with powerful arms from the forge he sports a handlebar mustache and long curly blond hair.⁠
.⁠
His sense of humor gives him twinkling blue eyes.⁠
.⁠
It's hard not to love "The Swede", as everyone affectionately calls him.⁠
.⁠
