Today I continue my quest in creating and posting one block a day of the fabulous That Town And Country Quilt by the lovely Susan Claire. This is day twenty-four of that project.

Today’s block is dedicated to my friend Ken, who put countless hours into a wooden boat school in Grand Lake, Colorado.

It was a wonderful experience for a group of high school students who learned how to fix and refinish wooden boats—bringing them back to their glory days. He also taught them to sail.

Experiences like that make our country strong: building self-esteem through hard work, seeing positive results in your work, and having pride in what you do.

After being a 4-H leader for 30 years, I can say there isn’t anything like producing something you are proud of to give you a sense of self-worth.

Thank you to people like Ken.
