Block-A-Day 45 – The Jetsons
Oddly enough the person who lives here is named George Jetson. All his life he’s been obsessed with everything from the 1960s. He was delighted to find this little gem. He married the love of his life, Jane.
My quest in creating and posting one block a day of the fabulous That Town And Country Quilt by the lovely Susan Claire. For a gallery index showing every block in the quilt in chronological order, click here.

I think at one time there was a Mr. Dinkle but the only thing people remember about him was that he sneezed all the time. I believe the marriage was fairly short-lived. Mrs. Dinkle is a sweet softhearted soul. She buys tuna by the case and is often seen walking around her yard with a cat perched on her head and a bowl of tuna in her hand calling “kitty kitty!”
Seeing the apples grow would be fun and picking them even better. My oldest son had an apple tree in his backyard at their last house. It was so interesting to me because several different varieties of apples had been grafted onto this one tree.
This VERY cute bird hangs out here looking for handouts. So, there might be a bird deposit on the bench. Perhaps this is the bird from the tree outside Lena and Angie’s house. It’s so colorful it’s probably the male. I was so excited the morning before last. I saw a bald eagle at my house!
Here is a confession about me. I can’t ride a bicycle. Even as a girl I couldn’t. My parents gave me a really pretty purple bike. I was able to balance okay, but I hit things. Like, head on. I would come into the driveway and hit the back of my mother’s car every time. It was a struggle.
Captain Ron lives here. A sailor, he made his living hiring on to sail big boats for people wanting to be on the ocean but had no knowledge of how to do it. A fun-loving, easy-going guy, he’s finally settled down in our town where his daughter and her children live.
This saltbox house is owned by Prudence and Primrose. Both of them are in their 60’s. They have lived in this house virtually all of their lives. Neither of them has ever married and they enjoy each other’s company so much they are happy together. Each is an accomplished quilter!
They moved from an apartment in a city so when she rented this house and saw it had a little yard and an honest-to-goodness tree, she was overjoyed. Lena’s room looks out into the tree and she daydreams when she’s supposed to be doing her homework. She can hear her mom and a young pupil downstairs practicing “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star” for the millionth time. As she tries to see the baby birds in a nest she’s been watching, she thinks about Trevor.
I love poppies so this block made me smile a lot. It also reminded me of my Grandmother Evelyn. She had an amazing green thumb and it seemed everything she planted grew. She shared this gift with me and I’m forever grateful.
One of my grandchildren, we’ll call Farmhand 1, referred to all people as humans when he was little (age 1-6). He was so into animals and talked about them with all the proper names that I guess it seemed natural to call all people humans. One day when they still lived in the city a city worker came to their door to tell them he was going to paint the curb.
