Today I continue my quest in creating and posting one block a day of the fabulous That Town And Country Quilt by the lovely Susan Claire. This is day thirty-seven of that project.

This quilt block shows a tall square house with a dark roof and a chimney. There are two floors with three windows and a dark door. All along the bottom of the square are small red buttons in various little shapes, including hearts, to signify flowers. — Click To Enlarge

This block was called “The Poppy House.” The pattern had several red flowers around the house.

Well, if you have ever had or known someone who did have a successful oriental poppy patch, you know that they have hundreds of seeds and spread underground too. If you have a few poppies, you have a LOT of poppies.

I love poppies, so this block made me smile a lot. It also reminded me of my Grandmother Evelyn. She had an amazing green thumb, and it seemed everything she planted grew. She shared this gift with me, and I’m forever grateful.

When I was a girl, she had prolific oriental poppies at the bottom of her steps and along the long sloping lawn. It seemed to me they practically grew on top of each other. It was like each one was trying harder to reach her.

It was a confined bed, and there wasn’t anywhere for them to expand to, but that didn’t stop them from trying. I loved her and her poppies.
