I’m using Sakura Micron pens to do the lettering on my buildings. 40 years ago I worked as a sign painter. This was before everything was designed by a computer. Back then everything was drafted by hand with squares, circle guides, and rulers on heavy kraft paper.

Block-A-Day 10 – Downtown And More

Here are the first 9 blocks sewn together to make the town square. I love it. I added lots of buttons from Just Another Button Company, whom I mentioned in the last post. I attached them with a basting glue so we can all see how cute this is going to be. After the quilt is all put together I will put it in water and the buttons will come off. After it dries it will get quilted, then I will permanently attach them. I can’t wait to finish the next round.

Notice the sweet little buttons that make up the flowers and night stars? I plan to use as many of these little buttons as I can in this quilt. I get them from Just Another Button Company. They have so many fun buttons, every color, and size, even handmade ones.

This is a grand building. In the pattern, it is called “city building”. I put a gold dome on the top to remind me of our state capitol building in Denver, Colorado.

Today we continue with the city square going around the block with another tiny park owned by the city. I’m supposing these are office buildings with lots of workers arriving early.

Block-A-Day 6 – The Tower

This is my favorite block so far because of the clock tower. I thought it would be a little challenging and fun to make the clock face. These blocks are really little, much smaller than the uploaded images cause them to appear. The clock face is only 5/8″!

This quilt block features both horizontal and vertical house structures turning around the bottom right corner. In the bottom right corner is a park bench.

Today is day five of that project, and features another corner block. In the first round, every other block is a corner, so I think of this first round as the town square.
