August News
As we enter the hottest part of our summer, we have some hot ideas at the Fabric Nook too!
On Tuesday, August 3rd at 5:30 PM, as well as Wednesday, August 4th at 1:30 PM we’ll be doing another project from the book Mini Wonderful Curves ($22.95) that uses the QCR Mini ($19) ruler titled “Bat Moon Rising.” We had a project from this book in January, March, and June, so if you have the book and ruler, be sure to bring them to class. Books and rulers are still available. You will need the book and ruler, plus a cutting mat, rotary cutter, sewing machine, and basic sewing tools. The class fee is $20 and includes all materials.
On Thursday, August 5th and 12th at 1:30 PM there will be a new class! Jan is going to teach us how to make three-dimensional felted animals. Everything is provided for this project. $20 class fee.
On Tuesday, August 10th and 24th at 10:30 AM there will be a Wool Appliqué class.
On Tuesday, August 10th at 5:30 PM, as well as Wednesday, August 11th at 1:30 PM we’ll have [UFO], or Unfinished Objects. This is a great time to bring in a stray project or something from class and complete it.
On Tuesday, August 17th at 5:30 PM and Wednesday, August 18th at 1:30 PM we will continue our monthly series “Swatter Sweaters.” These are really cute little projects that dress up the ordinary fly swatter. These Swatter Sweaters can also be made into a quilt, which many people are also doing. At the end of the year, you will have twenty-four 6.5” squares. This month we’re going back to school, and we have a bright shiny apple for the teacher on one side, and an old-fashioned schoolhouse on the other. Sewing machine and basic tools required. Cost: $15.
If you are participating in the Zoom meeting for Annie’s Fiction Stitch-Along (Murder By The Block), the next meeting is on Wednesday, August 18th at 6:30 PM.
On Tuesday, August 24th at 5:30 PM, as well as Wednesday, August 25th at 1:30 PM we’ll be making a Handle It door hanger organizer. You’ll need a sewing machine, basic sewing tools, and a 1/2 yard of main fabric (your choice) and a fat quarter of coordinating fabric; everything else is provided. Class fee is $15.
The last Saturday of the month, August 28th is Bag Day! If you’re unfamiliar with Bag Day you can come into the store with a pre-purchased canvas Fabric Nook bag, or purchase one in the store ($10), and then receive 25% off your purchase for that day. (Kits not included.)
There is no class on August 31st.
We have a lot of beautiful samples hanging in the store, including this one: 3D Paradise.
I’m continuing to do a block a day of the very interesting That Town And Country Quilt by Susan-Claire Mayfield. I’m having so much fun with my block of the day, honestly, more than I thought I would. My quilt is growing all the time. I post a new block along with details and thoughts every day on my blog. I hope you visit my blog and check out my blocks and commentary. Join in on the fun at https://tinasfabricnook.com/blog/ (or click “blog” in the top menu of the store site at https://tinasfabricnook.com)

Happy sewing ~
