This quilt block shows a lovely orange cottage in the bottom half. The cottage has an orange roof, with two chimneys. The front is a darker orange tan with two square golden windows. The door is orange like the roof and has a white doorknob. Penned in on the front of the house is a green vine with red flowers on it, traveling up the wall. The roof is lined with stitching and the house and windows are outlined with stitching.

Today I continue my quest in creating and posting one block a day of the fabulous That Town And Country Quilt by the lovely Susan-Claire Mayfield. This is day three hundred and fifty-nine of that project.

The door is orange like the roof and has a white doorknob. Penned in on the front of the house is a green vine with red flowers on it, traveling up the wall. This is the first home Lars and Ebba Olsson built when they settled in the countryside.

They were young, eager, and full of dreams. They worked hard, breaking the soil with a plow and a mule. They planted corn and wheat.

Their crops grew, and so did their family. First was Mikael, then Anders and Johann.

Soon they were blessed with Freja, followed by Olivia and Alva. Finally, Martha joined the family, and they were complete. By this time, they had built a much bigger house. You’ll see it tomorrow.

Ebba held onto her little cottage and lovingly cared for it. Planting flowers in the spring and making repairs.

Now one of her granddaughters, Arin, has her quilt studio in it. She thinks she can feel Ebba and her mother, Martha, as she stitches.

When Martha visits, they both stitch in Ebba’s house and laugh until they cry.
