Block-A-Day 33 – The Odd House

Today I continue my quest in creating and posting one block a day of the fabulous That Town And Country Quilt by the lovely Susan Claire. This is day thirty-three of that project.

This quilt block shows an orange-red house against a darker blue background. The house has two tall window on the left and right, and a tall yellow door in the middle giving it a look of surprise.

This is an odd little house, I think. It appears to have a look of perpetual surprise. Its windows give the impression of eyes that are opened so wide they raise the eyebrows, and the door is in the shape of a giant “oh.” So who lives in this cottage?

I think a professor lives here. A university history professor that only does research and has little contact with other people. Philip is a pleasant enough fellow who lives quietly with his books and his cat, Robert. The computer is a recent addition that he uses a great deal, but it can never replace his beloved books.

He doesn’t own this house even though he has lived there for 30 years. Instead, Philip prefers to rent without any of the worries of homeownership. Robert is truly a housecat, having never ventured out into the yard. Afraid of his shadow, he imagines himself a great hunter if only Philip would give him a chance.

Philip is totally unaware of Robert’s fantasy.
