Block-A-Day 271 – River Run’s Trees

Today I continue my quest in creating and posting one block a day of the fabulous That Town And Country Quilt by the lovely Susan-Claire Mayfield. This is day two hundred and seventy-one of that project.

This quilt block shows three trees in a row with various foliage. Each tree has a brown trunk with green stitching outlining it. The foliage is indicated by pieces of green fabric, also with green stitching outlining them. One tree is short with a round foliage, the next is medium with an oval foliage, and the next is tall, but with a short trunk, with a cone-shaped foliage. This is all against a blue salmon-patterned background.

This is a nice little stand of trees.

Groups like this are common at River Run. The terrain has highs and lows that offer spots where trees grow well.

The whole area is beautiful, and the designers want to give a “back to nature” feel.

Trees are so crucial to this atmosphere. They provide shade, color, and life.

This quilt block shows three pointy green trees on a patch of grass against a gray background. The important part here though is that in the patch of grass is a blue pond area with three duck shaped (and colored) buttons with two holes each. On the patch of grass are tall palm trees with brown-orange trunks and even darker green palm leaves splaying out from the tops. Much like the previous orange tree there are jagged shaped patches of grass at the bottom of the block. Then there is a trunk that is dark brown and lined by yellow stitching. At the top are many scattered leaves and large round reddish-orange apples. Each apple has a light green stems and leaves sticking out of the top. This is all against a blue salmon-patterned background.Block-A-Day 199 – The Apple Tree This quilt bock shows a large tree in the middle growing up from the bottom. The trunk is a solid piece of brown fabric much like the color of bark, outlined by two stitches of yellow thread. The foliage likewise is one nebulous piece of dark green fabric with an outline like that of a tree. IT is also outlined in two stitches of yellow thread. However, amidst the tree foliage are kites in varying degrees of stuck. One kite is embedded into the foliage, only showing half of itself, it's tail coming out in another place. Another larger kite is embedded ot the right, its corners stuck. It's longer tail is coming out of the right side. There is another kite hanging down that is blue.Block-A-Day 231 – The Kite Eater
