This quilt block shows four low shrubs all in a row at the bottom of the block. Each chrub is a square green topiary on top of a dark trunk. The trunk and topiary have light green stitching on them, the darker green topiary itself having a big swirl stitch on each. This is all against a light blue slamon-patterned background.

Today I continue my quest in creating and posting one block a day of the fabulous That Town And Country Quilt by the lovely Susan-Claire Mayfield. This is day two hundred and thirty-five of that project.

What is this hedge hiding/screening?

Tim knew he would be gone for at least four years when he decided to join the military. He asked his younger brother Aiden to take care of his pride and joy, his 1964 Pontiac GTO. Tim loved that car and had been working on it since he was 14.

There was no space in the garage because his father made it very clear his own car was residing there. The boys couldn’t just throw a tarp over it; some rules prohibited cars on blocks in his neighborhood. They were knocking around ideas when Aiden said, “Why don’t we put it in the front right off the street?”

Tim thought that was the dumbest thing Aiden had ever said and took a step toward him to punctuate his frustration when Aiden said hurriedly, “Wait, wait, you know that stupid hedge we’ve been clipping all these years to make Dad happy? I think it’s long enough to screen the GTO. We could tarp it and put it on blocks. If we build a low-slung structure just the size of the car around her, she’d be protected. If we paint it to match the hedge, I think it will work.”

That’s precisely what they did.

You never know what a hedge will be a screen for.
