This quilt block shows a tan squat building with a dark green thin angled roof. The opening, much like a dog house, is in the middle and is also dark green. The dark green pieces of fabric are stitched with a lighter green stitching. There are also lighter green stitches on the tan building to show the slats of wood. This is all against a light blue background.

Today I continue my quest in creating and posting one block a day of the fabulous That Town And Country Quilt by the lovely Susan-Claire Mayfield. This is day three hundred and eight of that project.

This is set up to be a farrowing (pig maternity) shed.

That means it is set up with deep fresh bedding for the sow (mama pig) to arrange to suit her for her delivery.

Water is sourced through a pig nipple (a piece of plumbing), so the water stays clean, and bedding stays dry.

Food is available for mama, and an area is provided for piglets. A corner is blocked off with an opening that piglets can get through, but mama can’t. It’s equipped with heat lamps to keep the little ones warm.

It’s a safe place for them to retreat to when they are not nursing. A space like that is necessary to help ensure their mama doesn’t lay on them.

Sisu’s farmer and rotating farmhands are on hand for delivery and the first night to ensure everyone gets it figured out.
