This quilt block is a corner block. This means that a piece of green fabric representing grass stretches from the bottom left corner to the top right corner. The grass is topped with a thick yellow stitching. On top of the grass is a tree with a cone shaped trunk made of dark brown fabric, and a large foliage on top made of a dark green fabric. These are outlined by a thinner yellow stitching. There is a rope and tire hanging from the tree drawn in with pen.

What you can’t see in this picture is that this tree is on the bank of a swimming hole. If you stand on top of the tire you can swing out and jump in. I wish I could hear the laughter that has been generated by this old-fashioned style of fun.

This quilt block shows two young Suffolk lambs against a light salmon-patterned blue background. The lambs themselves are made up of shaped black pieces of fabric, like silhouettes. One is shaped in such a way that it is standing and taking a step, while the other is laying down with its legs folded underneath itself. The black pieces of fabric (and the ears and other details) are outlined with a very small orange fabric stitching.

I am convinced that bottle babies played a role in the romance and ultimate marriage of my oldest son. During their early courting days, they came to the house and it was time to feed the babies. I asked them to do it for me.

This quilt block shows two sheep from the front. One sheep is much larger than the other, and is the mama sheep to the lamb. Each sheep is a piece of white fabric with a black triangular face near the upper middle. The bodies and ears are outlined with a brown threaded stitching. Each sheep also has four black pieces of fabric indicating their short legs.

This block reminded me of something that happened with our sheep many years ago. Everyone came in from the field. However, one mother came in with one lamb and was baa-ling her head off.

This quilt block shows a brown building made out of wooden slats. The slats are shown with yellow stitching. There is a door on the left side that is a very dark brown color. The roof is the same color and is slanted, with the top point of the roof to the right (the left side is longer than the right side). This is against a salmon-patterned blue background.

At the time my bedroom wasn’t finished and I admit to a little jealousy when the barn was finished better than the bedroom. We had just started raising sheep with a very small flock of ewes and a ram. Oh, we were excited.

This quilt block shows the outline of a horse in black against a light blue salmon-patterned background. The silhouette has one pen marking on it to show an eye in white. It is outlined by a light brown stitch. You can see the neck, the head, the ears, the tail, and the legs in detail throughout the silhouette.

I was dreadfully allergic when I was a girl and the drugs we have now we didn’t have then so it wasn’t meant to be. However, I have some fun facts for you about horses:

This quilt block shows a tan squat building with a dark green thin angled roof. The opening, much like a dog house, is in the middle and is also dark green. The dark green pieces of fabric are stitched with a lighter green stitching. There are also lighter green stitches on the tan building to show the slats of wood. This is all against a light blue background.

Food is available for mama and an area is provided for piglets. A corner is blocked off with an opening piglets can get through but mama can’t. It’s equipped with heat lamps to keep the little ones warm.

This quilt block shows a short box on a field of grass with white hens inside. The bottom half of the block is a green salmon-patterned fabric, while the top half is a light blue salmon-patterned baground. In the middle of the green fabric are brown pieces of fabric with brown stitching that show a squat structure. Half of the structure is covered, the other half is lined with chicken wire. Inside the chicken wire are white chickens, each it's own piece of fabric.

Block-A-Day 306 – The Pasture Pen

Pasture pens are open-air structures that have a roof covering 3/4 of the top surface. Half of the side surface is also solid. The remaining surfaces are covered with chicken wire.

Against a blue background we can see a bale of hay, and on top of that bale is a chicken facing to the left. The chicken is a darker brown fabric with yellow stitching on it outlining its shape and forming a wing. At the head of the chicken is a beak and eye drawn in yellow, black, and red pen. The bale of hay is a square orange block with a special leaflike yellow stitching going around it and up th middle in sections.

Chickens are curious creatures and it is a common sight for him to be faced with not just one but several hens on top of the bales checking him out.

This quilt block shows a blue background with six round bales of hay in the bottom center. The bales of hay are actually round, and we are looking at them from the side. Each bale is a green piece of fabric with a bright yellow leaf-like stitched spiral coming out from the center quite dramatically. They are placed in a pyramid pile with three rolls at the bottom.

We’re going to attach forks to our tractor bucket so that we can lift the bales and feed them to the cows. It should save some time and labor for winter feeding.

This quilt block shows a motorcycle made out of fabric. The chassis and motor are made out of a gray highly textured fabric and is accented with a light gray stitching indicating the engine and the tail pipe, as well as the handle bars. The wheels are a black circle of fabric, but mostly covered with the gray fabric indicating the spokes with the same stitching. The chrome is a dark red fabric with dark grey stitching, and on the main body behind the handlebars is an orange splotch of fabric in the shame o a flame. The seat is the same black fabric as the wheels, with black stitching.

I have ridden on the back of a few motorcycles for short outings. I found it fun and thrilling. Also a little scary. I could never drive a motorcycle. I can’t even control a bicycle! I would certainly be a danger to myself and others.
