Today I continue my quest in creating and posting one block a day of the fabulous That Town And Country Quilt by the lovely Susan-Claire Mayfield. This is day two hundred and eighty-four of that project.

Mountain Family Center is a wonderful resource for our community.

They have a top-notch thrift store and a very active, much-needed food bank. Our quilt guild donates lots of quilts, from baby quilts to full-size bed quilts.

Every Christmas, we are allowed to provide quilts and gifts to a local family. It’s really a highlight for our group.

The center got a facelift last year, and it really looks great.

She added another “hat” when she purchased the Fabric Nook from her kindergarten teacher in 2015. Tina is passionate about guiding customers in achieving their personal and creative goals. Her goal is to empower and help make everyone’s idea a beautiful reality about which they can feel great. She began her artistic journey as a garment maker in middle school by designing and creating her own clothes. Later on, she took apart clothes from thrift stores and put them back together to improve her construction and alteration skills. In addition to her sewing expertise, she also knits, crochets, and is an award-winning quilter.

The house itself is a dark tan color with a very dark brown door on the left. To the right of the door is a quilt block on display in a frame, and to the right of that is a yellow window with a hatch pattern over it in gray. Above these items is writing in script that says, Block-A-Day 242 – Maggie’s Retreat This quilt block shows a square building against a light blue salmon-patterned background. The building has a square flat roof that is a deep red. The door is also a deep red and pretty tall. On the red roof is a black sign with a lot of pen drawing on it. There is a sun with a spiral in the center, and a coffee cup with steam coming out o the top. The words, "Java Lava Cafe & Coffee Lounge" are on the sign in white, except for the word Cafe which is very large, center stage, and has a yellow-brown gradient. On either side the tall red door are tall yellow windows. In the left one there is the word "Open" in red letters.Block-A-Day 253 – Java Lava Café This quilt block shows a white garage and a lot of smoke. The garage is a white piece of fabric, with black pen markings on it to give it its details. There is drawn in a yellow lamp at the top of the garage, and the shadows are drawn in on two garage doors. Everywhere else except the upper left of the block is covered with a black fabric and brown fabric indicating smoke. It's quite dramatic.Block-A-Day 293 – The Fire, October 21st, 2020
