Block-A-Day 68 – Ernie’s
Today I continue my quest in creating and posting one block a day of the fabulous That Town And Country Quilt by the lovely Susan Claire. This is day sixty-eight of that project.

Yesterday we had a baker and today a butcher. Will we see a candlestick maker at some point?
When I was a little girl, we had a market called Strauchman’s. Two brothers from Denver owned it and had an excellent butcher shop. And they had a fantastic butcher named Ernie.
My father felt he had the best meat bar none. We actually did most of our grocery shopping at this little store. Of course, we bought all of our meat there.
We didn’t raise cattle then; instead, we raised Arabian horses. When you shopped at Stauchman’s, the box boys actually boxed your groceries.
They saved all the boxes the food came in and cut the tops off, and that’s what the groceries went home in. After a big shop, my sister and I would line the boxes up on the living room floor and put ourselves and our dolls in them. Then we’d play train.
