Today I continue my quest in creating and posting one block a day of the fabulous That Town And Country Quilt by the lovely Susan-Claire Mayfield. This is day two hundred and thirty-six of that project.

In the 1960s and 70s, a VW “Hippie” microbus was the envy of most 17 to 20-year-olds.

Oh man, if you were lucky enough to paint it like this one, you were really living. It represented a way to be independent on the cheap.

You could hit the road and pick up other like-minded hippies along the way. Go to the next Grateful Dead concert, or head up to Woodstock.

More likely, you were a surfer and headed to the beach. You could sleep in your van and carry your guitar.

These are still around, and I just read that VW is bringing them back in an electric version.

Those were the days, my friend.

There are two dark circles indicating wheels underneath with small off-white two-holed buttons in the centers indicating the axle.Block-A-Day 136 – Andy’s Vacation This quilt block shows a motorcycle made out of fabric. The chassis and motor are made out of a gray highly textured fabric and is accented with a light gray stitching indicating the engine and the tail pipe, as well as the handle bars. The wheels are a black circle of fabric, but mostly covered with the gray fabric indicating the spokes with the same stitching. The chrome is a dark red fabric with dark grey stitching, and on the main body behind the handlebars is an orange splotch of fabric in the shame o a flame. The seat is the same black fabric as the wheels, with black stitching.Block-A-Day 238 – Cathy’s Motorcycle This block shows a detailed red tractor. This tractor has a red chassis. There is a seat with a starting wheel that is penned in white. The innards of the tractor are shown in the body of the tractor with black and white pen markings. There is a big wheel on the back end that is black, red, and silver on the large axle. There is a smaller wheel up front. The wheels have a white stitching outlining them. There is a smoke stack coming out of the chassis which has black pen on the top and little clouds coming out.Block-A-Day 339 – The Massey-Ferguson
