They carry toys that encourage “making up your own story”. Handmade kitchens for aspiring chefs. Hobby horses for the little ones who watch westerns with their grandpas. Duplo blocks abound, and of course Legos too. Tops and kites. Trains and easels for the young engineer and artists. Costumes that are made from thrift store treasures by the store owner. Little girls especially like the “fancy hats”.
Where there are typewriters, copy boys, reporters, writers, secretaries and deadlines. Lots of activity and noise. I know that’s not how newsrooms run now that everyone is on a computer and everything is sent electronically. News, however, still happens the same way. Somebody screws up or there is a natural disaster and it’s news.
One of my grandchildren, we’ll call Farmhand 1, referred to all people as humans when he was little (age 1-6). He was so into animals and talked about them with all the proper names that I guess it seemed natural to call all people humans. One day when they still lived in the city a city worker came to their door to tell them he was going to paint the curb.
She has 4 delightful boys, ages 4, 3, 2, and 1. She has been told she is having a girl. Paula is over the moon. Fortunately, Paula and Shawn are easy going and have a wonderful sense of humor. Most of the time the antics of their brood produce laughter along with exhaustion. In their home, someone is always laughing and someone is always crying.
A sound plan, they would keep the duplex as an investment and be landlords. In the meantime, as is often the case, life got in the way. They both married and brought their brides to their shared home.
I think this is a tiny house. It’s cute as a button, with a great tree. You know one of those bitty houses we are seeing on HGTV and Netflix. The new wave in homeownership. When my children were very young we lived in a house that was less than 900 square feet. The children’s bedroom was 8’x10′. I had 3 young sons at the time. You’d think that it would be wall to wall beds, wouldn’t you? But no, I learned to be a master of using every square inch.
