This quilt block shows two cows from behind standing next to each other with a brown divider between them. Their tails are up revealing their large udders that are pink between their back legs. She wanted to milk the cows in the worse way. Her father would never allow it stating that she was a young lady and it would make her delicate hands course. I’ve always felt that was the reason she was so anxious to do it.

This quilt block shows your stereotypical black and white milking cow. The cow is made out of white fabric with black splotches. The udder below, which is fairly large, is made of a light pinkish fabric. Both are outlined by a very thing stitch of orange thread. The cow is facing to the right with its head down grazing on some grass drawn in with pen. The tail of the Holstein cow is long and black with a tuft at the end. It's in full swing from behind the cow.

Holsteins are pretty high maintenance, have huge appetites, and don’t do well on poor pasture. Highlanders are low maintenance and are efficient grazers.

This quilt block shows a white garage and a lot of smoke. The garage is a white piece of fabric, with black pen markings on it to give it its details. There is drawn in a yellow lamp at the top of the garage, and the shadows are drawn in on two garage doors. Everywhere else except the upper left of the block is covered with a black fabric and brown fabric indicating smoke. It's quite dramatic.

I debated about whether to include it in my quilt, but because it was such a big event I want the people that look at this quilt and read my stories to remember after I’m gone that we are all survivors.

This quilt block shows a square building with a sign on it and a wooden stairway up to a door. The building is white with black outlines showing the door and the windows. They can print some really big stuff down there, like blueprints and banners. The same with shipping. They are our go-to for UPS and FedEx. I always smile when I go in there because Joseph, the owner, has humorous signs posted behind the checkout counter.

This quilt block shows two building side by side. They are really one building made up of two townhomes. Each townhome has a black triangular roof. Below that is a beige-teal square building. The fronts of the townhomes are mirror images of each other. Each one has two upper floor square yellow windows (bordered by brown thread, and one lower floor yellow square window. The lower windows have flowerbeds in front of them, with one having red flowers (tiny two-hole buttons), and the other having pink flowers. Next to each window is a black rounded door.

This is a nice big building. A gymnasium for ball sports, exercise rooms, community rooms for puzzles and card games and a pool out back. They have craft classes, scrapbooking groups, aerobics and yoga. You can join a bridge, pinochle, mahjong, cribbage or chess game any afternoon.

This square was made with my dear friend Kathy in mind. She had the most amazing craft room you could imagine. Designed just for her with places for all her various crafts. My grandsons would go up and help her haul boxes up and down the stairs to her amazing room.

This quilt block shows a black square building with a large garage door shaped front. The front is all glass, shown by revealing the background fabric with blue and white pen lines drawn to indicate a door, and windows. At the top of the glass it reads, "Auto & Truck Repair". My friend Kris and her husband Dave are the owners of Grand County Automotive. They are the ones I trust my car to. They have been down at the end of town making cars and their people happy for a lot of years.

This quilt block shows a leafless tree, made of brown fabric, against a blue background with a cloudy full moon behind it. The full moon appears to be made of a ring of fabric/stitching with a filled in body of yellow pen. To the left at the base of the tree is a black cat. The cat is outlined with white stitching and white pen on black fabric to resemble a cat sitting facing to the right.

In the meantime, she’s pretty happy with living with this tree. Lots of food scurrying about to feed and entertain her. There is a little girl on the street that comes over at least once a day to pet her and give her little treats. She brings a water bottle and pours it into a dish so Smudge has a drink.
