The driver is a student that does this to help with expenses. He hopes someday to become an airplane mechanic, so he spends down time in the hanger talking to the mechanics and pilots.
This block also makes me think of my friend Rhonda Buss. I know she flies a much fancier plane than this one. I named my little plane after her. Rhonda is an amazing seamstress. She sews beautiful clothes. She has a challenge right now to wear an outfit every day that she has sewn.
The last flight I took at Stapleton was when I went to my mother’s funeral in Phoenix. The Pope had been here and the flight to Phoenix was filled with nuns going home. That is not a sight you see every day.
Then there are urgent or special shipments that require a charter to move them. That is what is needed if you order a car delivered to you by air or an elephant.
Theirs is a high stress job requiring complete concentration. To become a controller you must apply for training before your 31st birthday. Mandatory retirement is 56 years of age.
That happened long before the fire last year. After the fire I thought of the people who had lost everything and realized they would not have what they needed.
I was ready and waiting behind the bus when the driver came around to load our luggage. I had left enough space for the rear doors to open. Just then these two middle aged men and their preteen sons pushed their way in front of me talking to each other the whole time.
When I have taken the shuttle from the airport up the mountain I have talked to some very interesting people. Once I was sitting next to a young woman from the east coast inner city that had come to work at the YMCA here in the mountains.
Vinnie drives the cab. There hasn’t always been a TAXI in That Town. Vinnie used to live in Trenton, where he drove a cab for 30 years.
