Block-A-Day 315 – Milking Time!
Today I continue my quest in creating and posting one block a day of the fabulous That Town And Country Quilt by the lovely Susan-Claire Mayfield. This is day three hundred and fifteen of that project.

When you have a dairy cow, this ritual is performed twice a day, no matter what. Most cows are well-behaved and cooperative once they get into the swing of things and if the farmer is consistent.
My grandmother grew up on a farm. They primarily raised sheep, but like most other family farms, they had a couple of milk cows.
She wanted to milk the cows in the worse way. Her father would never allow it, stating that she was a young lady and it would make her delicate hands course. I’ve always felt that was the reason she was so anxious to do it.
Milking machines revolutionized the dairy industry. An experienced person can milk 4 or maybe 5 cows an hour by hand. One person can milk 150 cows an hour with good equipment, yowza!
