Block-A-Day 343 – The Windmill
Today I continue my quest in creating and posting one block a day of the fabulous That Town And Country Quilt by the lovely Susan-Claire Mayfield. This is day three hundred and forty-three of that project.

A windmill is an interesting addition to a landscape.
In the west, when you see a windmill, it usually means water is being pumped with wind power.
The first windmills, however, were for grinding grain. The oldest existing windmill is in the Netherlands, built in 1441 as a corn mill.
The American windmill was invented by Daniel Halladay in 1854. Windmills were used by the colonists to pump water, grind grain, and cut wood in sawmills.
They are still used in agriculture to pump water in areas where electricity is unavailable.
In 1890 wind turbine generators were widely used. All are predecessors of the wind turbines of today.
