The kids who came from surrounding towns went in the morning. I got into trouble one day when the principal called my mother and told her she had to not leave so early for class because I was causing the bus to have to leave late.

This quilt block shows a brown fence, like in the previous blocks, coming up just short of halfway. Above the fence you can see the top bars and chains of a swing-set. Both of these are against a gray splotchy background.

There was a boy that was a bully to the other smaller boys and when we were young my husband was not a very big kid. He was often a target of the bully. One day … And that’s the moment my husband said he knew I was “The One”.

This quilt block shows a tree behind a fence against a gray background. The fence is a dark splotchy brown, and the top of each plank is rounded like a thumbnail. The fence takes up about one third of the block from the bottom, with the next third taken up by a dark rust-brown trunk and a somewhat blobby patch of dark green indicating a large tree.

This quilt block shows a yellow double-decker bus against a gray background. The bus has two big brown wheels with off-white two-holed round buttons in the centers. There is a driver's wheel penned in the bottom front of the bus, but more importantly there is a blue sign on the side that says,

Low overpasses are common here and that is a problem for these tall buses. Also, they are ok for urban areas where speeds are low and winds are broken by the buildings.

This is an awkward light orange vuilding. One side is two stories, while the right side is one story and looks attached like a studio. To the left of the building is a tree.

Block-A-Day 38 – Angie, Lena, and Trevor

They moved from an apartment in a city so when she rented this house and saw it had a little yard and an honest-to-goodness tree, she was overjoyed. Lena’s room looks out into the tree and she daydreams when she’s supposed to be doing her homework. She can hear her mom and a young pupil downstairs practicing “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star” for the millionth time. As she tries to see the baby birds in a nest she’s been watching, she thinks about Trevor.
