I’m going to call this duck a Silver Appleyard duck. They are a nice dual breed duck, producing tender meat and plentiful eggs. Here are 8 reasons to keep ducks:
A gelding is a castrated male horse. Once after a vet had been to our place to castrate a couple of colts, I asked my father why the vet had been there. He replied, “Well, Sis, those young studs just had their minds changed for them.”
If you have a hundred chickens you’ll have ten nests, and that’s about the ratio you want and works out the best. When we started out we had open nests just like you see here in this block.
Chickens are curious creatures and it is a common sight for him to be faced with not just one but several hens on top of the bales checking him out.
We have been doing our outside decorating here at the shop. Yesterday we put our scarecrow out front. We had a lot of fun building her and she’s a little scary. I love fall colors and I wear them all the time.
Insurance is a very contentious subject locally in my town. With the fire last year our county has had so much loss of home and property that you can imagine we have had so many claims.
In Ireland, people started to carve turnips into scary faces to frighten away Jack. When the Irish immigrants came to the USA they started carving pumpkins. My favorite part? The roasted pumpkin seeds!
Upstairs was a 3.2 beer joint called The Upstairs. The bowling alley closed in the late seventies. Sonny and Ruthie Samuelson were the owners. After that Cindy Samuelson opened a feed store there and I bought feed for many years from her.
I only know what I’ve seen in movies about barber shops. A place where guys go and get a haircut and hang out. It always looks like they are having a good time and that the barbershop is the most important place to be. So maybe this shop is just like that.
