If you have a hundred chickens you’ll have ten nests, and that’s about the ratio you want and works out the best. When we started out we had open nests just like you see here in this block.

This quilt block shows a blue salmon-patterned background with a bunch of very thing black vertical lines on it. The vertical lines have a larger base at the bottom of them. These are dead trees with little black skeletal like branches coming off them. There are dozens and dozens on this block making up a quite burnt forest.

Then a miracle happened, the weather got colder, the wind changed and it snowed. My son refers to it as the day Hell Froze Over. Everyone took a deep breath and saw what was left.

This quilt block shows three 'weeds' coming up from the bottom against a blue salmon-patterned background. The weeds have little stalks that branch out into little bean shaped pods. The fabric of the plants is a green color with a light green stitching. The plants themselves are unlike flowers, and somewhat unpleasant to look at.

I’ve been thinking about this all afternoon. I was trying to decide if this way of thinking applied to the few people who are a fly in my ointment. (Really very few.)

This quilt block shows a camper from the side view on a light blue background. The camper is a pale green with a dark green door on the right back side (behind the wheel). The window to the left is a light yellow. The camper is pill shaped a bit, with a rounded roof. There is a single wheel with a light two-holed small button in the middle of the dark circle indicating the axle.

She has everything she needs right here. She even has her sewing machine secured in a cabinet. An avid quilter, she knew she had to figure out how to make that work for her. She’s working on blocks of each place she visits.
