I decided this machine was going to be used for emergency flight for life evacuations and to do fly over tours. The man who owns the helicopter, “Seagull” Caldwell, is an entrepreneur and always looking for opportunities.
They would turn on the lights and sirens and drive a few blocks to the movie theater we had then. I would cover my ears and be scared silly. The theater was called El Grande and once we arrived there we’d line up, still bundled up to our chins.
District #1 is responsible for 150 square miles in the Central Rocky Mountains. The volunteer department was established in 1939. Our district was formed in 1951. They handle about 160 calls a year They do wildfires, vehicle accidents and hazmat responses.
We have been very fortunate with our local emergency room. I had to go to the emergency room 3 years ago. I had both my eardrums ruptured with infection and the inflammation in one ear was really bad.
