They have had nothing to eat or drink since hatching so for the first thing they are gently taken out of the box and their beaks are put in water so they have to take a little. All the farmhands help with this part and even Farmhand 4 is gentle enough.
I have a little story about tulips this year at our house. Farmhand 1 planted and grew some very beautiful red and yellow tulips. While they were in full bloom Farmhand 4 picked them. Without permission.
However, last winter he would come into my room in the morning and because I slept on my side he was right at eye level to me. He’d tap my forehead with the cutie until I woke up so I could peel it for him.
One day a neighbor came over with some very sorry looking kale and wanted to know what was wrong with it. FH1 looked at it and said, “You have aphids”. The neighbor looked to Asa and he nodded that indeed he had aphids.
